Blood Curse

+- About -+

The time of mages was coming close to extinction. There was a few gifted ones though... still some magicians about that tried to continue their legacy. After some time people would begin to forget the magic they once possessed. Only a few believers and mages were left, but not all had the same goal in mind. In this world, in that dimension, society and life were marvelous and full of surprises. Full of beings that the ignorant humans would never know of their existence; like the mages and the faeries, the mummies and the wraiths, all mysteriously shrouded in the dark ages of the past. Some persons though, believed in such creatures. Those humans were hunters. Born to kill the mages in greed to know about their power, they would not share the world with them.

The Rite of Mages

Mages are the only clan that has a rite to pass on amazing powers to an apprentice. The mage must choose an apprentice that meets the qualities to hold within a beast. Though the mages are in control, the beasts' power differs from one to another. Every single mage keeps ranking up with experience and time passing and that is why they must pass on the beast. If the beast is neglected to be passed on before a mage takes an ArchMage ranking, they that mage will die along with the parasitic demon inside. When the beast is passed on a chain occurs and the mentor mage will keep his or her life.

The ritual itself is a combination of many steps and different events. A mentor mage decides the precise time to give the beast to the apprentice. It must always be done upon a night with no moon or full moon. It takes place on a shrine decorated by many candles, tons of hanging ribbons, and inscripted curtains. The walls tend to have a light color in order to reflect the light from the fire of the candles and brighten the room itself.

Within the rite's process each mage casts beautiful spells and have a mystical kind of dance. A rather seductive feeling must feel the area and just like a couple in marriage they must embrace each other and share their life for just that moment. For a while that continues, but at some point when the couple of mages stand and face each other, the mentor mage allows the demon to pry loose from his flesh and body. The beast only has very little time to go from the primary host to the next and this can be in a very savage or caring way depending on the kind of beast.

The rite just appears to end there because most of the events are over, but meanwhile the beast studies its new host in order to keep alive. Whoever the mentor is suffers great damage and grows weak for that whole night while the moon stays on the sky.

Apprentice of the mage will grow tired and sleep since the inner energy is getting used to keep the beast alive. It is the most vunerable time in which the mages can be because they cannot protect each other. For a rather long period of time the creature might remain dormant, but it must show itself at least once, 'finishing' the rite. After that, the beast will either cease its appearance or just keep haunting their host. That always depends on what kind of beast was chosen for the legacy.
